HOOPS INVITATIONAL
The HBCU Hoops Invitational is a pioneering initiative centered on diversity, equity, and inclusion, marking the inaugural pre-season, non-conference basketball tournament exclusively featuring Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). With a primary focus on leveling the playing field for students and student-athletes, the tournament aims to provide equal opportunities, meaningful education, and robust career preparation achieved through facilitating access to essential resources such as technology, tailored educational support, and career development tools. Thereby enabling participants to thrive academically and professionally. Scholarships and sponsorships are essential to these objectives and outcomes.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is twofold: to offer significant support to scholar-athletes throughout their collegiate journey by furnishing scholarships and vital resources, while also spotlighting and celebrating women's contributions to collegiate sports. Additionally, we seek to raise awareness and educate the community about the rich heritage and significance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Taking place in Tampa, FL, the experience spans six days, with three days dedicated to the HBCU basketball tournament, slated for December 2024. Women are currently on the rise. THE VISIONARY
Haywoode Workman, the visionary behind the HBCU Hoops Invitational, boasts a remarkable career trajectory marked by athletic prowess and trail-blazing achievements. Selected as a second-round pick in the 1989 NBA Draft, Haywoode embarked on an illustrious journey that saw him play eight seasons in the NBA and the CBA. His basketball career extended beyond the court, as he transitioned to become the second African American NBA official, serving for an impressive 13 seasons. Before his professional basketball success, Haywoode distinguished himself as an All-State high school quarterback in North Carolina.
He initially showcased his athletic talents at Winston Salem State University, where he excelled in both football and basketball for a year before transferring to Oral Roberts University. Haywoode's exceptional contributions to sports were duly recognized when he was inducted into the Oral Roberts University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003. His multifaceted journey reflects not only his athletic prowess but also his enduring impact as a leader and role model within the sporting community.

Will there be affiliated events?Yes. There will be a Charity Golf Outing, Community Fan Fest and Concert, and evening social events all in support of the HBCU Hoops Invitational Scholarships.

What Covid-19 measures are being put in place?The well-being of our guests and staff is our top priority. Safety measures will be implemented based on current public health recommendations, including those set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local agencies. Anyone who is symptomatic should not attend any events. Anyone who is immunocompromised should check with their health care provider prior to participating in any of the events that will be taking place.
